What does this procedure mean?

A biopsy or FNAC obtains cells or a small tissue sample from an area that needs diagnosis. Ultrasound or CT guidance helps the specialist plan a precise and safe route to the target.

- Bruising, pain or minor bleeding at the puncture site
- Infection is uncommon
- Some organs or lesions have specific bleeding or injury risks
- Occasionally the sample may be insufficient and repeat sampling may be needed

- Follow any fasting, medication or preparation instructions given specifically to you.
- Arrange an accompanying person if the clinic advises this because of sedation or the expected recovery.
